Frigidaire Range Repair in San Francisco

A range is several appliances in one cabinet. We find which part of it is failing before suggesting anything.

At a glance

Overview

A range is the hardest working appliance in most kitchens, and when it misbehaves the whole household notices at dinner time. Gas burners that will not light, an oven that runs off its set temperature, a door that stays locked after a clean cycle: each is a different repair. Our Frigidaire range repair service covers gas, electric and induction ranges, including front-control models, in homes from Victorian flats to newer condos around the Bay.

Where ranges go wrong

  • Oven temperature is off. Food cooks too slowly or burns. The oven temperature sensor, the control, the bake or broil element and the door seal are candidates; read oven temperature too high or too low for the pattern.
  • Uneven baking. One side of the tray browns more than the other. Rack position, the element, airflow and the sensor all contribute, as described in oven bakes unevenly.
  • Burner flame is yellow or uneven. On gas ranges, a dirty burner cap, a partly blocked port or a spark problem is typical. See the guide to a yellow or uneven flame.
  • Surface element does not heat. On an electric range, a receptacle, a burner switch or a loose element connection can be involved. On induction, the cookware and the touch controls also matter.
  • Door will not unlock after self-clean. The lock motor and switches complete their cycle and then fail to release. Details are in door will not unlock after self-clean.
  • Display shows an F code. The control has detected a fault and may stop baking to protect itself.

How we diagnose a range

We ask which part of the range is affected, since a range is really several appliances in one cabinet: surface burners, an oven, a control and sometimes a warming drawer or storage drawer. The technician starts with what you can observe, then tests components specifically. For a gas range that means igniters, spark modules, burner ports and the oven safety valve. For electric and induction it means elements, relays, sensors and the control board. The outcome is a written estimate, and nothing is repaired without your approval.

Range codes

Many Frigidaire ranges show an F code. Write down the exact code and the point in the cycle where it appeared. Meanings include:

  • F10: runaway temperature, with the oven detecting a higher-than-normal temperature as a safety alert.
  • F3: an open or shorted RTD oven sensor.
  • F11: a shorted keypad.
  • F90: the maximum oven door unlock time was exceeded, which is a door lock issue.
  • F13: a bad EEPROM identification or checksum error.

A code is a clue, not a verdict. The technician confirms the cause with measurements. See the whole error code library for other codes.

Fuel, electrical supply and installation details

Gas and electric ranges have very different needs. A gas range depends on a shutoff valve, a flexible connector, a regulator and a clear flame path, so we confirm they are in good condition and that the range sits level. Smell gas, and everyone leaves: do not touch switches, and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

An electric or induction range runs on a dedicated high-capacity circuit with a heavy cord, so a loose connection at the outlet is dangerous and can mimic a failed element. Induction surfaces also require cookware that responds to the field, which is a frequent cause of “dead” burners.

Old San Francisco buildings often have ranges recessed into cabinetry, with a tight clearance on either side and a floor that is not truly level. Pulling the range forward may be needed for rear access, so clear the area around it and mention any flooring that is easily damaged.

Safe checks for owners

  • Check that the breaker is on, or for a gas range that the gas shutoff handle is in line with the pipe, and the plug for the clock and igniter is seated.
  • Wipe burner caps and grates and make sure each cap is correctly seated. Clean around the surface elements, taking care with spills near a gas port.
  • Test the problem with a different pan, especially on induction.
  • Look at the door gasket and make sure it is not torn or folded.
  • Write down any code, then do one controlled power reset by switching the breaker off for a minute and back on.

Do not open the back panel, probe live terminals, bend the oven sensor or touch a gas fitting.

When to stop using the range

Stop cooking if you smell gas, see sparks, find melted wiring or smell burning from under the cooktop, or if the oven stays hot after it should be off. Burning smell or sparks mean switching the range off at the breaker. If the oven door is locked and the oven is hot, leave it alone and let it cool, because forcing it can damage the lock.

Why the model number matters

Gallery, Professional and standard ranges use different controls, sensors and element layouts, and gas and electric versions share very little. The label is usually on the frame behind the oven door, or on the edge of the drawer front. You can find the GCFE3060BF Gallery electric range, the GCFG3060BD Gallery gas range and the PCFI3080AF Professional induction range, all 30-inch models. The older FPEF3077QF is discontinued.

How the visit runs

You submit the form with the symptom, the code and the model number. The technician arrives, tests and explains. You receive a written estimate and approve the work before it begins. If a part is not on the truck, we tell you which burners or oven functions are safe to use meanwhile.
