Frigidaire Dishwasher Repair in San Francisco

Built-in dishwashers need planning as much as repair. We start under the sink and at the door latch, then test the parts.

At a glance

Overview

Dishwashers fail in small, annoying ways: a cycle that never starts, glasses that come out cloudy, a puddle at the bottom of the tub after the cycle ends. In a Bay Area kitchen the machine is often built into narrow cabinetry beside a sink that has little elbow room, so a repair has to be planned as well as performed. Our Frigidaire dishwasher repair visits start with sorting out which system is responsible: water in, water out, heat, the latch and controls, or the wash action itself.

Common dishwasher problems and what they suggest

  • Water stays in the tub. A clogged filter or sump, a kinked drain hose, a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed or a drain pump issue can all do this. Our article on a dishwasher that fills and then stops covers the sequence in detail.
  • Will not start, or the panel is dead. Door latch and switch, control board, power supply and a lockout mode are the usual list. See dishwasher will not start, controls unresponsive.
  • Door will not latch. A bent latch, a worn door catch or a switch that does not register the closed door keeps the cycle from beginning. See the guide on door that will not latch.
  • Noise. Humming, grinding or rattling can come from the wash pump, a foreign object in the pump area, a loose spray arm or a drain pump that is working against debris. Compare it with our notes on grinding, humming and rattling.
  • Dishes are not clean. Detergent that fails to dissolve points to the dispenser or water temperature; see the pod that does not dissolve. A white film is usually a water or rinse issue, covered in cloudy glasses and white film.
  • Leaks. Door gasket, spray arm positioning, the water inlet valve and the hose connections are all inspected, starting from the outside where the water appears.

How we diagnose

We ask what happens, when, and whether anything has changed recently: a new detergent, a plumbing job under the sink, or a power interruption. The technician then checks the simple causes first, such as the filter, the spray arms, the drain path and the latch, before testing parts. Pumps, valves and sensors are checked for the behavior they should show, and the control board is examined last, because a board is rarely the first thing to fail.

The result is a written estimate naming the cause. No repair is done until you have approved it, and if the dishwasher is not worth repairing we say that directly.

Display codes on Frigidaire dishwashers

Some models show a code in the display or flash a light pattern. Write down what you see. The meanings we use come from our verified library:

  • I20: the dishwasher did not drain completely.
  • I40: a clogged filter or sump, with food debris built up.
  • CL: the door is open, not fully closed and latched, also shown as Cd.
  • PF: loss of power.
  • TH: the display flashes when a thermistor failure is detected.
  • UF: the fan is not running, displayed as ER/uF.

The code tells us where the machine noticed a problem, not which part to buy. The technician confirms before recommending anything. Browse the error code library for other codes.

Installation details that affect the repair

A built-in dishwasher is connected to three things: a hot water supply line, a drain hose that runs to the sink drain or disposal, and an electrical connection, often through a cord or a hardwired box. In older San Francisco kitchens the cabinet opening can be tight, the countertop may be tile or stone, and the machine may be held in place by brackets that must be released carefully.

Drain setup is a frequent source of confusion. A drain hose needs a high loop or an air gap so water cannot flow back from the sink, and a new disposal often has a knockout plug that blocks drainage if it stays in. We look at these under the sink early in the visit. Hard water is common in some Bay Area neighborhoods, and mineral deposits show up as film on glass and scale around the heating area, so water quality comes into the discussion when it matters.

Because these units are installed in kitchens that are often rentals, we also help property managers by documenting what we find, so approval can come from the right person before work proceeds.

Checks you can do safely

  • Make sure the breaker is on and the machine has power.
  • Close the door firmly and listen for the latch.
  • Remove the lower rack and clean the filter you can reach by hand; clear visible debris from the tub and the drain screen.
  • Check that the water supply valve under the sink is open.
  • Run the disposal briefly if the dishwasher drains through it and see whether the sink drains freely.
  • Note the code and do one controlled power reset, switching the breaker off for a minute and back on.

Do not take off the lower kick panel, handle wiring, or try to pry the latch mechanism open.

When to stop using it

Stop the dishwasher if water is leaking onto the floor, if the door is damaged, if you smell burning, or if the breaker trips when it runs. Burning smell or sparks mean power off at the breaker. Standing water under the sink or on a kitchen floor can find its way to a unit below you, so close the supply valve and call us.

Why the model number matters

Dishwashers vary in tub design, wash pump, filter and control, so the model number steers every part choice. The label is usually on the inside edge or the side of the door frame. We list models such as the GDPH4515AF, a Gallery 24-inch dishwasher, and the FFBD1831UB here. Send the number along with your request.

How the visit runs

You send the request with the model, the symptom and any code. The technician arrives, tests the machine, explains the finding and provides a written estimate. You approve, and the work follows. The Frigidaire dishwashers guide explains the lineup, and our range repair page may help if you have trouble with a neighboring appliance.
