Frigidaire Ranges

A range is an oven, burners and electronics in one body. This guide sorts the Frigidaire models, the common faults and the first things to look at.

At a glance

Overview

A 30-inch freestanding range is the default in most Bay Area kitchens, from a studio in the Mission to a family house in the Sunset. Frigidaire builds them in electric, gas and induction versions, and the faults split along fuel lines even when the cabinet looks the same.

Lineup by fuel and series

All the ranges here are 30-inch models. In the Gallery line, the GCFE3060BF is electric and listed as current, the GCFG3060BD is gas and current, and the GCRE3060BF is another electric. The Professional line includes the PCFE3080AF electric, the PCFI3080AF induction, the PCFG3080AF gas and the discontinued FPEF3077QF electric. Without a series name, we track the electric FCFE3062AS and FCRE3062AS, plus the gas FCRG3062AW.

Where the label is

On most ranges the model plate is usually on the frame behind the oven door or along the storage drawer opening; open the door or pull the drawer out and look at the front frame. A second tag may be on the back. Photograph it so the number is exact.

What goes wrong

  • The oven will not heat, or bakes unevenly or at the wrong temperature.
  • One burner or element is dead while the others work.
  • Gas burners click without lighting, or burn yellow and uneven.
  • The door stays locked after a self-clean.
  • The display shows an F-code and the oven shuts down.
  • Touch controls respond slowly or not at all.

Related reading: oven bakes unevenly, oven temperature off, door will not unlock after self-clean and burner flame trouble.

Fault codes we have meanings for

  • F10 is a runaway temperature safety alert: the oven detected a higher temperature than normal.
  • F3 is an open or shorted oven sensor, and F30 and F31 report an open or shorted probe connection.
  • F11 is a shorted keypad, and F14 a display tail that is missing or not connected.
  • F90 through F94 are door lock issues involving unlock, open or lock time or attempts.
  • F40 and F41 are cooktop lockout errors.

Many more F-codes exist in the code library. Note the exact one before you reset anything.

Gas, electric and induction differences

An electric range depends on the oven elements, the sensor and the control; a failed element is visible as a dead coil, a failed sensor often shows up as a code. Gas ranges add an igniter and valve, and a clicking spark module that never lights points to the burner cap, ports or igniter, not to the oven itself. Induction has no flame or coil, so cookware matters; a pan that is not magnetic will simply not heat. Each fuel shifts what we test first.

Owner checks

  1. Check the breaker for an electric range, or confirm the gas valve behind the range is in its normal open position.
  2. Make sure the oven door closes fully and nothing blocks the latch.
  3. Reseat burner caps and clean the burner ports of grease.
  4. Wipe the control glass dry; moisture can confuse touch panels.
  5. Do one controlled power reset at the breaker and note whether the code returns.

If you smell gas, leave the home, avoid switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. If you smell burning or see sparks, shut the breaker off. Never remove the back panel or work on gas fittings.
