Frigidaire Dehumidifiers

A bucket that never fills, frost on the coil or a blinking letter code each point to something different. Sort out which one you have.

At a glance

Overview

In a foggy city, a dehumidifier is the appliance that keeps the basement, the garage laundry corner and the ground-floor flat from smelling damp. Frigidaire dehumidifiers run for long stretches, usually unattended, so a problem often shows itself as a full bucket, a frosty coil or a display that blinks a letter code, rather than a dramatic failure.

The dehumidifier lineup

Five Frigidaire dehumidifiers are covered. FHDD2233Y1 is a 22 pint unit that is current. FFAD2233W1 is a 22 pint unit that has been discontinued. FFAD2234W1 is also a 22 pint model. FHDD2234W1 and FHDD3534Y1 complete the list.

Where to find the model number

The data label is usually on the side panel or the back of the cabinet, sometimes under the bucket slot. Pull the unit away from the wall to read it, and write down the model together with the serial number.

Common complaints

It runs but the room stays damp

A unit that cycles normally and fills its bucket slowly may be starved for air by a clogged filter, a coil covered in lint, or a placement that leaves the rear intake pressed against a wall. If the bucket stays dry while the compressor runs, a refrigeration problem is more likely.

Frost on the coils

Ice on the evaporator stops the air from passing through and ends in a unit that blows but does not collect water. Read Frigidaire dehumidifier freezes up with frost on the coils for what usually causes it.

Pump will not drain

Models that move water out through a hose rely on an internal pump. If the bucket fills with the hose attached, the pump, the hose route or a kink may be at fault. See Frigidaire dehumidifier pump will not drain.

Noise, shut-offs and a full-bucket light

A loud hum, a fan that rattles, or a unit that shuts off early may mean a misaligned bucket, a dirty fan or a switch that thinks the bucket is full.

Error codes

This family has the largest set of verified display codes among the room appliances. Each link opens the page for that code.

  • AS, ES, F1, F2, F5 and L1 all mean a temperature or humidity sensor has failed.
  • C5 and E4 mean an electronic control failure.
  • E5 and H3 mean compressor overload protection.
  • EC and F0 mean a sealed system failure.
  • PU means the unit failed to pump out the bucket within the allotted time.

Write the code exactly as shown and give it to us when you book. We do not suggest reset sequences.

Safe first steps

  • Check the outlet, the breaker and the plug.
  • Empty the bucket and seat it fully, since a loose bucket makes the unit think it is full.
  • Wash the air filter and let it dry before returning it.
  • Move the unit so the intake and the exhaust have room, away from curtains, boxes and walls.
  • If it is frosted over, switch it off and let it thaw in a warm room before running it again.
  • For pump models, check that the drain hose is not pinched and runs downhill to a drain or sink.
  • Unplug it, wait, and plug it in once to clear a frozen display.

Do not open the cabinet or touch the tubing. If you see water near the plug, keep the cord out of it and shut off the breaker.
