Frigidaire Dishwashers

Wet dishes, standing water or a door that refuses to latch usually come down to a few parts. Here is how Frigidaire dishwashers are laid out and what to check first.

At a glance

Overview

Models in the lineup we track

The GDPH4515AF is a 24-inch dishwasher from the Gallery line. The FFBD family comes in two numbers and several finishes: the FFBD1831UB, FFBD1831US and FFBD1831UW on one side, and the FFBD2420UB and FFBD2420US on the other. Most San Francisco kitchens, including galley kitchens in older Victorians and compact condo layouts, have the standard under-counter opening these fit, so replacement and repair questions tend to overlap.

Where to read the model number

The label is usually on the inside edge of the door, on the side or top rim of the tub opening, or along the door frame. Open the door fully and look at the panel along the rim; some units hide the plate under the upper rack tracks. Write the full number down instead of guessing from the front finish.

Typical complaints

  • Water stays in the bottom after a cycle, or the sump looks full and smelly.
  • The cycle starts, fills, then stops washing or never reaches the wash phase.
  • Dishes come out gritty, cloudy or with detergent residue still in the dispenser.
  • The unit hums, grinds or rattles when the pump or spray arm turns.
  • The door will not latch, so the start button does nothing.
  • Leaks at the door bottom or under the toe kick.

Our articles on a dishwasher that fills then stops washing and on a door that will not latch cover the two most common starting points in detail.

Reading the display

These meanings come from Frigidaire documentation for the models. Write the code down before you reset anything.

  • CL means the door is not fully closed and latched; some units show it as Cd.
  • i20 reports that the dishwasher did not drain completely, and i40 points to a clogged filter or sump with food debris.
  • PF signals a loss of power.
  • HD is a heat delay, where the unit is heating water before it begins washing; it can also appear as HO.
  • TH flashes for a thermistor failure, TU for the turbidity sensor, RA for rinse aid monitoring and HS for the Hall sensor.
  • uF is a fan that is not running, and uo means the vent will not close.
  • ER indicates a switch failure, and CE a configuration error.

Checks that are safe for an owner

  1. Close the door slowly and listen for the latch; look for a dish, utensil or rack handle sticking out.
  2. Remove the lower rack and clean the visible filter and the area around it. Debris here causes many drain complaints.
  3. Check the sink side: if a garbage disposal is attached, make sure its knockout plug was removed when the dishwasher was installed and that the air gap, if present, is clear.
  4. Run the sink tap hot for a moment to confirm the supply is working, and confirm the water supply valve under the sink is open.
  5. Check the breaker. Then do one power reset by switching the breaker off for a short interval and back on.
  6. Look at the door gasket for tears or grit.

Please do not remove the lower kick panel, test wires with the power on, or take the pump apart. If there is a burning smell, switch off at the breaker and leave the door closed.

When to book

If the same code returns after the filter is clean, if water pools on the floor, or if the control is dead after a reset, it is time for a diagnosis. Our Frigidaire dishwasher repair visit begins by reading the model and code, you get a written estimate, and no part is replaced without your go-ahead.
