Frigidaire Cooktops

A cooktop drops into a countertop cutout and hides its electronics underneath. Here is how Frigidaire cooktops behave and what to look at first.

At a glance

Overview

Cooktops

Three electric cooktops are on our list, all from the Gallery line. The GCCE3049AS is a 30-inch cooktop and listed as current. The GCCE3070AS is also 30-inch and discontinued, which is something to know if you need to match a cutout during a remodel. The GCCE3670AD is a 36-inch cooktop. Frigidaire also makes induction cooktops, and the code meanings further down cover induction hardware.

Where to find the label

A cooktop label is usually on the underside of the unit or the frame around the burners, which means you often cannot see it from above. Check the cabinet below the cooktop for a tag on the underside edge, or look in your paperwork. If the plate is not reachable, a clear photo of the top surface and brand mark plus the cutout width helps us identify it.

Complaints

  • One zone never warms while the others do.
  • A burner stays on high or will not turn down.
  • The touch panel ignores your taps, beeps or locks itself.
  • A code appears and the surface shuts off.
  • A crack or a spill under the glass.
  • Clicking or a hot smell with the zone off.
  • A zone that cycles on and off by itself while cooking.

Our article on touch controls that do not respond walks through the most common situation, often caused by moisture or a stuck key.

Codes with confirmed meanings

  • 11 is a jammed key on the touch panel, and 14 means the touch panel tail is missing.
  • 15 is a self-test failure of the electronic surface control, and 21 is a communication error on the internal network.
  • 51, 52, 54 and 55 are inductor temperature sensor breaks for specific zones.
  • 61, 62, 64 and 65 mean an inductor sensor reads too hot.
  • HE, steady in the display with the zone cold and off, points to a temperature sensor defect.

The full set, including supply voltage and generator codes, sits in the code library.

Why the cutout matters

Because a cooktop sits in a countertop opening, heat and moisture from the cabinet below affect it. An oven or drawer directly underneath leaves less air space, and spills run down to the connections. A smooth top that is cracked should be turned off at once, since liquid can reach the electronics. A hardwired cooktop also depends on a junction box in the cabinet, so power problems may hide there.

Owner checks

  1. Switch the breaker for the cooktop off and on once, which resets a frozen control.
  2. Clean the glass and the control area with a dry or lightly damp cloth, then try again.
  3. Remove any pot or object from the surface that might press a touch key.
  4. Check that cookware sits flat and, on an induction model, responds to a magnet.
  5. Write the code or the zone that fails.

Do not lift the cooktop, remove the underside covers or test the connections. If you see sparks or smell burning, switch off the breaker.

Gas or electric: what this guide covers

The three models above are electric, and the code list leans toward induction hardware, where a glass surface sits over coils and a power module. Gas cooktops, which have sealed burners and an igniter, fail differently: a burner that clicks but does not light is a cap, port or igniter question. The same guide to uneven flame applies there. If you smell gas at any time, leave, avoid switches and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

Booking

When a zone stays dead or a code returns, our Frigidaire cooktop repair visit gives you a diagnosis, a written estimate, and no work without your approval. If your cooktop sits above a built-in oven, our range guide can help you compare symptoms.
